The Perdita Pearl

There is gold in this ring, and none of it was mined.

Twelve millimetres of golden South Sea pearl, round, set in hallmarked platinum. A ring that is seen from the doorway.

This is a golden South Sea pearl from the gold-lipped oyster of the Philippines, and gold is the rarest colour the sea produces. Honey at the crown, old gold where it turns, a green light that moves with the hand. At twelve millimetres it reaches a scale very few golden pearls achieve. The nacre is very thick and the lustre very high, and the light seems to come from somewhere inside it.

A pearl is chosen rather than cut. This one was chosen for its colour, its size, and the depth of its lustre.

The setting is a single sweep of hallmarked platinum, opened at the top, holding the pearl between two rounded tips. Cool white against warm gold, the shank smooth and continuous around the finger. Worn, it reads as a single line drawn around the hand. It is made in recrafted eighteen-carat gold as well, for a warmer reading of the same line.

For the person drawn to colour, who wants their pearl to carry it.

Each ring is made individually in Britain, sized to the wearer, and assessed by a jeweller qualified through the Gemological Institute of America and the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. Authentication and valuation documentation are included as standard.

This piece is shown by private appointment and made to your exact specification. We'd be delighted to show it to you personally — by video call or by personal arrangement.

Pearl marks the thirtieth year, and the third.
