The Portia Pearl

For most of history a pearl this size came only from the sea. This one came from fresh water.

Twelve millimetres of Edison pearl, round, set in hallmarked platinum. Warm at every angle, and warmer at some.

Soft champagne-peach across the body, with rose-pink and warm gold moving through the overtone and a faint ivory halo gathering towards the lower edge. The colour is the pearl's own. The lustre is satin rather than glass — a bright reflection at the crown, and a softer glow around it. The Edison is a cultured freshwater pearl grown to a scale that fresh water had not reached before.

A pearl this colour takes its cue from the skin it sits against. It settles differently on every hand.

The setting is the platinum sweep the cabinet is built on, opened at the top and holding the pearl at two points. Against a pale pearl the metal reads as a bright outline rather than a contrast, and ring and stone become one continuous curve. It is made in recrafted eighteen-carat gold as well, for a warmer reading of the same line.

For the person who reaches for the warm end of everything.

Each ring is made individually in Britain, sized to the wearer, and assessed by a jeweller qualified through the Gemological Institute of America and the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. Authentication and valuation documentation are included as standard.

This piece is shown by private appointment and made to your exact specification. We'd be delighted to show it to you personally — by video call or by personal arrangement.

Pearl marks the thirtieth year, and the third.
