The Viola Pearl
A pearl is supposed to be white. This one never was.
Twelve millimetres of Tahitian pearl, round, set in hallmarked platinum. Black, and full of colour.
The Tahitian comes from the black-lipped oyster of French Polynesia, and the colour is the oyster's own. Black at first glance, then green and silver and violet as the hand moves, with a reflection that sits on the surface like wet glass. The nacre is very thick and the lustre very high.
It reads as black across a room and as colour up close. Both are true.
The setting is the platinum sweep the cabinet is built on, opened at the top and holding the pearl at two points. Against black, the platinum draws a bright line right around the pearl, and the two hold each other in place. It is made in recrafted eighteen-carat gold as well, for a warmer reading of the same line.
For the person who wears black and means it.
Each ring is made individually in Britain, sized to the wearer, and assessed by a jeweller qualified through the Gemological Institute of America and the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. Authentication and valuation documentation are included as standard.
